Bored of the 80s

After having visited several highstreet AW previews, as well as following the catwalk collections I know, as we all have gathered by now that the 80s are going to be huge this autumn. For those of us that were born then, and can't remember it from its first foray it is definitely going to be a fun time. Chunky rainbow knits, shoulder padded tees and plenty of bleached denim and studs. But I swear if I see another take on Madonna punk or the breakfast club or re-invented knits I think I might scream.

While the vintage kids were doing it, it was cool. Agyness et al made us all want a production line of the choicest 80s picks at our finger tips, and now we have it about to explode upon us. It makes me a little sad that nothing individual is sacred, but then again the smell of vintage makes me feel a little bit ill. I'm not sure how much i'll indulge in what will be most probably a passing phase... better to look for the next big decade. Must be time for the shell suits of the 90s to make a comeback.

On being Ugly Betty...

Its very easy to feel like the odd one out in the crazy world of fashion press days. Where once I was working in the thick of things, I am now trying to make a name for myself (very slowly). So rather than being a nobody from Somewhere, I can now be me, but that is one crazy scary concept.

I'm not thin enough, not arrogant enough or haggard enough to look like i've been chewing on the fashion stick for years now. I don't even really get fashion, for me its about personal style, some days I have it, some days I don't.

Press days are now my chance to, a) See all the cool and wonderful stuff available for AW09 and b) to see the fashion wheels working close up. Sometimes the PRs talk to me, sometimes they don't but I don't really care as long as the freebies and goody bags are good. The novelty of it all still makes me smile. For the first time I am at least trying to forge ahead, even though (temporarily hopefully) i've lost my ability to come up with original thought.

I'm thinking however, in order to try and feel the part that this Ugly Betty needs a makeover... suggestions on a postcard.

Snood

I'm not sure why, and this is probably a very pointless entry, but I thought i'd write a few words about my latest fashion obsession. The snood. Whats that? Yes, it sounds very odd, and if you do a google search you find lots of odd photos of unhappy dogs in headgear (I kid you not) but I like them anyway. The idea of an endless loop for a scarf fascinates me.

The american apparel variety, all 50 inches of it, boasts at least 10 different ways to wear it. Topshop have also recently released a selection of jersey snoods which sadly sold out within days. The reason for the popularity being the challenge of showing just how creative you are I suppose. We all want to be so desperately individual these days...

My reason for wanting one? Probably the joy of saying the word snood over and over again.
